About Me

I grew up in a household obsessed with classical music. My father was a gifted pianist, and my mother was a passionate music lover. They brought my brother and me to many concerts, often sitting in incredible seats, and also required me to take piano lessons for 10 years.  I hated it.  Classical music requires technical skill and accuracy: You either play the piece right or you don’t. That ethos didn’t fit my character…..I like to explore areas “outside the lines.”

At the same time, my musical training helped me when I went on to teach myself rhythm guitar in college, and in the following years I played music with friends and wrote some original songs.

My experience in the visual arts was limited – I took a semester art course in high school – until I was in my early 50’s. I raised my kids in a small, rural town about a half hour from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. Dartmouth’s Hood Museum offered workshops for young students from the surrounding towns, so one day I was one of a group of parent chaperones who drove our kids, including my youngest, to the art museum for the morning.
